The Antimalware Service Executable continuously scans developer source code, virtual machine disks, or its own installation directory, consuming significant processor capacity.

Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Scroll to Exclusions > Add an exclusion > Select 'Process' > Type: MsMpEng.exe > Click Add.
Exclude developer project folders from real-time scanning
Under the same Exclusions menu, select 'Folder' and add your main coding directories (such as C:\Users\Name\Desktop\projects or C:\src\).
Adjust Windows Defender Scheduled Scan task triggers
Open Task Scheduler > Navigate to Microsoft > Windows > Windows Defender > Right-click 'Windows Defender Scheduled Scan' > Properties > Conditions tab > Check 'Start the task only if the computer is idle'.
Run an offline scan to check for active threats
In Windows Security, click 'Scan options' > select 'Microsoft Defender Antivirus (offline scan)' > click 'Scan now'. The PC will reboot into a clean offline environment to remove deeply hidden malware.
