Shut down the PC, turn off the power supply rocker switch (O), and unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet. Press the front power button once while unplugged to discharge residual capacitor energy before touching any internal components.
Hold fan blades still while blowing compressed air
CRITICAL: Hold fan blades with a pencil or finger so they cannot spin when using compressed air. Blowing air on free-spinning fans can over-spin bearings and generate reverse electrical current into the motherboard fan header.
Blow air opposite the normal airflow direction
To dislodge the compacted dust blanket, blow compressed air from the outside exhaust vents BACKWARDS toward the fan intake. The solid dust mat will pop off the fins intact for easy removal with tweezers. SAFETY: Hold the fan blades still with a finger or non-conductive tool while spraying compressed air. Allowing fans to free-spin rapidly can burn out bearings and generate reverse voltage back into the motherboard fan header.
Clean magnetic case dust filters with warm water
Remove front and bottom mesh dust filters. Wash under warm tap water, dry completely with a towel for 30 minutes, and reinstall. Clean filters restore 100% fresh air intake to and CPU.
