Laptop thermal paste pump-out degradation (degraded cooling after 2 months)
Traditional silicone-based thermal paste on bare-die laptop processors squishes out from thermal expansion and contraction cycles (the pump-out effect), leading to dry-out and thermal throttling.
Internal desktop parts run on harmless 12V DC voltage and cannot shock you. Simply unplug the wall power cable first, then touch the unpainted metal case frame to ground static electricity.

Shut down the PC, turn off the power supply rocker switch (O), and unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet. Press the front power button once while unplugged to discharge residual capacitor energy before touching any internal components.
Replace standard paste with Honeywell PTM7950 phase-change pad
Standard paste (MX-4, Kryonaut) pumps out quickly on bare silicon dies. Order genuine Honeywell PTM7950 phase-change pad; it is solid at room temperature and melts under heat, completely eliminating pump-out.
Pre-chill PTM7950 in refrigerator before cutting
Place the PTM7950 sheet in the fridge for 10 minutes to make it stiff. Cut exactly to the size of the CPU and dies, peel the plastic liner, apply to the die, and screw down the heatsink.
Use high-viscosity viscous paste if PTM is unavailable
If you must use paste, use high-viscosity thick compounds designed for direct-die applications (like Thermalright TFX, Gelid GC-Extreme, or K5 Pro on memory modules).
Tighten laptop heatsink screws in numbered sequence
Laptop copper vapor chambers have numbered screw posts (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6). Always tighten them strictly in ascending sequence to prevent tilting the contact plate and pinching paste to one side.
