Interactive Fix Checklist

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: fsutil dirty query C: (or target drive letter). If output states Volume - C: is dirty, Windows has flagged file system metadata as inconsistent.
Schedule offline CHKDSK scan
Execute command: chkdsk C: /f /r /x. When prompted to schedule volume check on next restart, type Y and press Enter.
Allow disk repair to complete during reboot
Restart PC and allow Windows Check Disk to complete all 5 stages of file and index verification without power interruption. This repairs orphaned index records and clears the dirty bit.
Verify clean volume status
After Windows boots to desktop, run fsutil dirty query C: again. The response must state: Volume - C: is not dirty.
